Federal officials are investigating the attack in Boulder, Colorado, as a “targeted act of terrorism,” saying a man is suspected of using makeshift flamethrower and incendiary device Sunday afternoon to injure eight people who were part of a march calling for the release of hostages in Gaza that was organized by a Jewish group.
A 45-year-old man was arrested at the scene and briefly hospitalized. Mohamed Sabry Soliman is in custody at the Boulder County Jail on several charges and is set to appear for a court hearing at 1:30 p.m. local time on Monday. Boulder police said that no victims had died.
The attack unfolded on the eve of Shavuot, a two-day holiday that celebrates God giving the Torah to the Jewish people at Mount Sinai, and comes at a period of heightened concern among the Jewish community in the United States after a fatal shooting in May of two people who worked at the Israeli Embassy in Washington.
