Scottish Premiership: Reaction as St Mirren & Hibs play out stalemate

Hibernian head coach David Gray tells Premier Sports: “I think in the end it’s a good point because we were by no means at our best at all.

“No real quality in the game, but we did find a way to not get beat, as we played a lot better before and lost games.

“I dont think we deserved to get anything more than a point out of the game.”

On Alasana Manneh’s sending off, he adds: “The big frustration is nothing can be done, as it’s two yellows.

“Listen, there were a lot of decisions in the game I didn’t agree with but I’m not going to stand here and blame the referee for the outcome of the game because I don’t think we did enough.

“We didn’t do enough to go and win the game.”

The Hibs page is here.

St. Mirren have failed to score in 11 of their 26 games, this is more often than any other team in the Scottish Premiership this season.

Hibs, meanwhile, failed to attempt a shot on target in this game, it’s the first time they failed to attempt a shot on target in a game in the top flight since facing Celtic on 11th August 2024.

A scrappy game indeed.

After this weekend’s six games, here’s how the Scottish Premiership looks now.

Earlier today, Rangers were victorious over Hearts at Tynecastle.

Cast your minds back to how maligned Hibs were just a few months ago for their defending.

That’s now three clean sheets on the spin for David Gray’s side.

A little bit of time and patience can do wonders. Granted, it’s easy to say that in hindsight aye…

Referee Ross Hardie initially awarded Hibs a penalty but overturned it after consulting the VAR monitor.

He then sent off Alasana Manneh following two cautions.

Jordan Smith’s double save was crucial too, the second of which was a brilliant stop.

Hardly a classic but a potentially valuable point for both sides.

St Mirren leapfrog Kilmarnock into the top six as Hibs stay fifth.

St Mirren break but it’s brought back for an offside.

They make a late substitution too with Owen Oseni replacing Mikael Mandron.

We’re into the first of five added minutes.

Hibs threaten with Martin Boyle latching onto the ball on the byeline but flashes his effort well over the bar.

Time is running out.

St Mirren deal with a searching Martin Boyle free-kick before play is paused for a head knock in the box.

Can either side find a late goal?

Chris and Nicky Cadden are both off.

Nathan Moriah-Welsh and Lewis Miller are on.

This game is petering out…

Hibs debutant Alasana Manneh is shown a second yellow card.

His first came just moments after he came on and is now shown a second just over 10 minutes after coming on.

Jonah Ayunga is now in the book for a late challenge on Rocky Bushiri.

Meanwhile, Oisin Smyth replaces Caolan Boyd-Munce for the hosts.

There’s a brief VAR check for a potential red card as Alex Gogic hurdles over a Hibs player on the ground.

It all comes and goes relatively quickly, with the St Mirren player still on the pitch.

Bit of a rash challenge from Mikael Mandron on Rocky Bushiri in the Hibs’ box.

The visiting defender flicks it away but clearly felt something there.

Aye, that’s not a penalty.

Warren O’Hora heads it off of Killian Phillips’ head.

To be fair to the referee he promptly changes his mind and play resumes with a drop ball.

Referee Ross Hardie is quick to point to the spot for a handball by Killian Phillips.

Replays show it hits his head first. There may be a VAR check coming up…

Time for changes clearly.

Greg Kiltie and Jonah Ayunga both come on for St Mirren

Mark O’Hara and Toyosi Olusanya are both off.

Jordan Obita is on, as is Alasana Manneh for his debut.

Departing the field are Kwon Hyeok-kyu and Jack Iredale

Alex Gogic picks up a yellow card and is soon joined in the book by his teammate Marcus Fraser.

Alasana Manneh was sent off just 13 minutes into his Hibernian debut as David Gray’s side made it 12 games unbeaten with a goalless Scottish Premiership draw at St Mirren.

The Gambia midfielder, a graduate of the Barcelona youth academy, came on in the 70th minute, was booked a minute later for a trip, then saw yellow again for a reckless challenge.

The visitors held on with 10 men for a point but missed the chance to move fourth, while St Mirren jump to sixth, above Kilmarnock on goal difference.

There were chances for both sides, but goalkeepers Zach Hemming and Jordan Smith both produced excellent second-half saves to keep the game scoreless.

Hibs were awarded a penalty in the second half as referee Ross Hardie judged the ball to have struck Killian Phillips’ arm, but it was overturned on review as replays showed the ball clearly hit the midfielder in the face.

More to follow.
