England face West Indies in second T20 – live text

West Indies captain Shai Hope: “I thought we were a few runs short, with the dimensions and the pitch being a decent one. I don’t think we capitalised on the middle overs with the spin, but whatever we have on the board we have to defend it.

“It’s great to have Akeal back to control that powerplay. We’re just trying to find the correct roles for everyone to play in every conditions. We’re shaping up pretty nicely.

“I think we need to limit as many dot balls as we can, score off more deliveries, our dot percentage needs to fall. We’ve got to run it hard, keep that percentage down, as long as we do that we’ll be a force to be reckoned with.

“We have to try and bounce back, win the game and finish the tour strong, setting the tone as a team.”

Player of the match Luke Wood speaking to Test Match Special: “It’s my first game in an England shirt for a year and half. I’m just trying to make my mark when you get a chance to do so, it was nice to get a run out and nice to win a game.”

On the swinging ball: “I’ve said it before, it’s my forte, probably what I’m best known for. I had a good time in Pakistan recently, I’m coming out with good confidence.

“First game back, a wicket always settles you down a bit. A bit of nerves, but I enjoyed it.

They didn’t announce the team until we got here today, anticipation is more nerve-wracking, when you get on the field it’s OK.

“The mood always seems very good. We know this ground is quite hard to defend on, so we felt it’s a good toss to win. You saw with Rash at the end, even mine to an extent, you’re only two overs away from 50 runs and the cost to the game is massive. It’s not always easy, but it’s good to win.

“Harry Brook’s been very good so far, always thinks of his feet, very proactive.”

Excellent spot from everyone’s favourite BBC cricket journalist, Ffion Wynne.

Today is the highest number of runs scored in a T20 international when no-one has passed fifty.

After West Indies bashed 47 from the final two overs, we thought West Indies were in the game. In truth, it was par at best.

England can take credit for how they bowled in the first 18 overs…

Tom Banton finished with 30 not out from 11 balls there – a very handy return from a man still trying to secure his place at international level.

When the series is lost, the one thing you have to salvage is your pride. If you feel sorry for yourself it can be worse, you’re a professional cricketer you get on with it.

There’ll be some disappointment for the West Indies, there were moments when they could have seized the initiative.

The winning runs come off the edge of Brydon Carse’s bat but that is a very impressive victory. West Indies piled up a big target and England have charged home with nine balls to spare.

That gives England the T20 series, given they are now 2-0 up with one to play.

England still needed 71 runs to win from 39 balls when Harry Brook got out. The lower-order has done its job today which will really please the new skipper.

Imagine how comfortable this would have been if West Indies hadn’t scored 31 from an over…

I’m not sure about that ball to that field, it was too easy for Banton. He had an off side field, and Banton found a really quite large gap.

Tom Banton has been timing the boxer shorts off this ball.

Four to mid-wicket takes England to the brink.

Alzarri Joseph cruelly fires the ball in at the toe Brydon Carse considered getting chopped off.

Carse gets bat on it for a single.

England have sent Brydon Carse in ahead of Liam Dawson, an experienced head. Carse plays in one way, with aggressive intent, so there’s a chance of another wicket.

Brydon Carse emerges with nine needed from 16 balls.

A glimmer of hope, they needed that. If they can get another one, that’s when more hope comes.

Drilled to extra cover by Will Jacks. Alzarri Joseph’s expression doesn’t change from full-on grump.

This time Alzarri Joseph finds the middle of the pitch with the free hit. It could have been caught on the boundary but doesn’t matter.

The free-hit is a wide.

Bowl it again, Alzarri… He’s gone for six before bowling a legitimate delivery.

Surely game over now?

Alzarri Joseph fires it down the leg side for wides. And it’s a no-ball!
