US orders to warships to stay in the Mediterranean

A cluster warship of the USA was ordered to stay in the Mediterranean to “give reassurance” to European countries after the escalating tensions between Ukraine and Russia.

According to the news in the New York Post, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin ordered the USS Harry Truman warship and 5 other ships to stay in the European theater of operations rather than move to the Central Command area, which includes northeast Africa, the Middle East and South Asia.

Making a statement on the matter, a Ministry of Defense official said that the decision to change the course of warships “reflects the need for a permanent presence in Europe and is necessary to assure our allies about our collective defense commitment.”

Biden and Putin will meet on the phone today

US President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold a phone call today to discuss the Ukraine issue.

The warship cluster has been in the Mediterranean since 1 December when it left the United States for a regularly scheduled deployment.

Russian State Leader Putin stated on December 23 that he did not stand by his words that NATO would not move east without mistakes and that he should give them “immediate” guarantees regarding security. At the annual press conference held in the capital Moscow, he evaluated the possibility of Russia attacking Ukraine.
