6-month postponement of elections in Libya is on the agenda

Libya’s House of Representatives valued postponing the presidential elections for 6 months and starting a comprehensive dialogue between the parties.

Deputies attending the House of Representatives session in the city of Tobruk discussed the election papers that were planned to be held on 24 December but could not be realized.

In his statement, Parliament Speaker Fevzi en-Nuveyri said that various offers were received from the deputies regarding the elections.

Nuveyri stated that the proposals were weighted around postponing the elections for 6 months and conducting an expanded dialogue among the parties in the country.

The Libyan National Electoral Committee suggested that the presidential elections, which should be held on December 24, be postponed to January 24, 2022.
