The South China Morning Post newspaper also reported that visa applications were made for 18 mid-level and low-level State Department officials to take part in “security reinforcement operations” in the United States, in the news it published last week.

Explaining that the USA will not send an official and diplomatic delegation even though it is not invited to the Winter Olympics, Spokesperson Cao said that “it staged a comedy for political manipulation” and said, “We encourage the USA to act in accordance with the Olympic spirit once again, to stop politicizing sports and to support the Beijing Winter Olympics. We call on him to put an end to his false words and actions aimed at undermining.”
The USA, England and Australia announced that they would implement a diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing due to China’s practices against the Uighur Turks and human rights violations; Japan also declared that it would not send cabinet delegations and members to represent the government.
