Iran closes its land borders for 15 days

The Iranian administration has decided to close the land border gates with a 15-day deadline as of today, as part of the measures taken against the Omicron variant of COVID-19.

Customs Spokesperson Ruhollah Latifi gave information about the new measures taken due to the Omicron variant, in a statement to the Iranian Personnel News Agency (ILNA).

Latifi said that the land border gates will be closed to passengers for 15 days, but that commercial entries and exits will continue.

Latifi stated that the decision was taken to prevent the spread of the Omicron variant in line with the request of the National Council on Dealing with Corona.

Latifi said that those with permanent residence or education, commercial and health visas will be able to enter and exit through the land border gates during this period, and noted that commercial activities will continue as before.

Latifi also added that the border gates in the middle of Turkmenistan and Iran have not been opened to passengers since the beginning of the epidemic.
