Liz Truss is Britain’s new Chief Brexit Negotiator

Johnson’s office said in a statement, “Liz Truss will assume ministerial responsibilities for Britain’s ties to the European Union, with immediate effect, and will lead the ongoing negotiations to resolve issues that arise in the implementation of the Northern Ireland Protocol.”

Deputy EU Council Leader Maros Sefcovic said in a statement on Twitter after Truss was selected as the UK’s chief negotiator, “I and my team will continue negotiations with the UK in a one-on-one spirit on the next valuable topics.”

Truss had been on the side of advocating for the UK to continue to slide within the EU in the 2016 referendum on whether the UK should leave the EU or not. But now he is a proponent of Brexit and his name for the Conservative Party is mentioned in the midst of post-Johnson leader candidates.
