A new community and fitness project is set to be launched in the Medway towns.

Active Kent and Medway, a section of Kent County Council (KCC), has received a grant of £5,000 from the watersports programme Active Thames as part of its latest round of funding.

The money will be used to provide a range of fitness activities and monthly kayaking sessions along the River Medway.

Nina Gurung, portfolio holder for heritage, culture and leisure at Medway Council, said: “We believe in promoting the health and wellbeing of our residents in Medway.”

The grant will be allocated to coaching fees, qualifications for assistant coaches, kayaking sessions and essential equipment.

According to Medway Council, the new fitness programme is set to be launched in April.

Active Thames is a programme which supports the development of watersports on the tidal Thames and inland waterways in London, Kent and Essex.

The latest round of funding has awarded a total of £131,545 across 22 community projects.
